Brekkie at the Beach Sunday 6th Jan 2008 The morning was listed to start any time from 8am on. We had a house full with 5 guests, so by the time we gathered ourselves together & hit the road, we arrived just after 9.30, to find many people already there & settled – which was a great sight to see. Having a trailer behind us, to accommodate all our chairs etc, we found crowded car parks, so needed to go further along the street to find a spot to cater for our tad longer vehicle. Everyone was grouped under the trees on a nice grassy area, on their chairs. The morning was spent with lots of chat – which we are all good at! Some cooked their brekkies on the barbies provided, others took their cook tops with them. There were lovely trees which naturally attracted the need to climb – as well as plenty of places to go for a walk – the beach being a popular choice of course. |

| Some brave souls ventured in for a swim – they told me the
water was beautiful, & the breeze was balmy, so no, it didn’t make them feel
cold when they came out. The reason I use the word “brave”, is because the
lifeguards had their board up warning people to be wary of the rips &
currents – that’s enough to keep me out, I don’t appreciate doing battle
with them! However, we did enjoy a very pleasant paddle for some way along
the beach & back, & yes the water was delightful.
It was quite crowded, as most people there did the right thing, & stayed between the flags. There will always be the few who feel having the place to themselves, is more important than being safe, or making the lifeguards job easier! Fortunately nothing untoward happened that day, that I am aware of. We had the joy of spotting a pod of dolphins just moseying casually along, further up the beach. |

Arriving back at our circle, it was to find some people had departed. We sat & talked some more, as others left one after the other – until our family group voted to go to the shopping centre for a coffee & something to eat, as they wanted to wander around the shops. So we took our leave from the group, just after midday, everybody noticing the sky ominously changing. In half to 3 quarters of an hour, the thunder was rumbling, the lightning joining in, & by the time we came outside to go to the car, we were amazed to see the skies had opened up, big time!! So Brian collected the car & drove it up to the curbside, & with lots of laughing, 6 bodies scrambled to get in to place, in the shortest time possible, & we joined the queue of cars fighting their way back to Brisbane. We spared a thought for those we had left at the grass camp, & according to an email from Danny, they had packed up & hit the road in time. I would expect them to have been the last ones to leave, so nobody should have got caught!

Well done Heidi. On behalf of the 24 families who participated – which was a terrific turn out, good for you, to all those who went - thank you for organising the get together. Susan Munro
