President’s Track Notes

Well another month bites the dust for 2025, nearly halfway through the year, and close to full time for this committee.

I have just returned from K’gari Clean Up, and the weather was outstanding. We had a good club turnout and across all the attending clubs, a record weight of rubbish was collected. I will leave the details to the people doing the talk and written report.

Trophy day is literally around the corner, June 8th. Come along and support the members who will be receiving trophies this year and enjoy a social morning. This is the club’s rewards day for all those who have contributed throughout the year. It also shows support for those who run the trips and social events.

The AGM is coming up in July, and a position on the committee can, and has been for me, a very rewarding time. If you’re interested in putting your name forward, please contact Brenda for a form, or attend the meeting and volunteer.

We have had an active committee this year and have a great number of trips and social events coming up. Make sure to get onto Member Jungle and put your name down. It’s a great tool and assists the members in what’s going on, registering for trips, and general chit chat.

That’s it for me this month, thanks to the members who have contributed this year, and looking forward to seeing you all at trophy day.

Danny Power
President, Brisbane 4WD Club Inc

Recap of Last Month

Here’s a quick recap of the events and trips we’ve enjoyed over the past month:

  • Camp for a Cure: By all accounts, this was a fantastic event, raising some funds for a very worthy cause. Michelle Manton showcased her line dancing skills, which we heard were fantastic! Yee-haw!
  • May General Meeting: We had over 70 attendees at the May Meeting! Thank you to everyone who came along. It is great to see everyone making the trip to the Eddie for our Monthly Meetings.
  • Induction & Club Trip @ Black Duck Valley 4x4 Park: Unfortunately, this trip was a WASH-OUT! The induction went ahead for those that braved the mud.
Keep an eye on the Event Calendar for when this one will get rescheduled.
  • K'Gari Clean Up 2025: Another monumental weekend on our Club's Calendar this year. 8.3 tonnes of rubbish from beautiful K'Gari-Fraser Island. Great work by those members who rolled up their sleeves to participate.

You can read our latest Trip Reports by clicking on the ‘News’ tab on the app.

What a month it’s been — from community fundraisers to muddy tracks and massive clean-up efforts, May was full of energy and enthusiasm. A huge thank you to everyone who got involved, showed up, or rolled up their sleeves. We’re proud of what we achieved together and can’t wait to do it all again next month!

End of Year Committee Reports - Part One

Kat Barrow - Trip Co-Ordinator

Trips are the heart and soul of this club, and the reason that we all come together. It’s been wonderful to see the huge variety of events happening across the last 12 months, providing so many opportunities for members to make friends, memories, and probably some trips to the mechanic!

The year kicked off with our annual Christmas in July at Murphy’s creek. Traditionally a social trip, it was great to have an easy drive around Lockyer Valley included this year! It was one of a som many really great trips that combined good socialising and relaxing with some scenic drives - the Imbil State Forest and Esk events were in a similar vein and enjoyed by all.

Each year we also support the two annual 4WD Queensland events - Corroboree and Kgari Clean Up. A group of members attended the Corroboree in Woodford this year and spent a wonderful few days connecting with members of other clubs and exploring the beautiful area. We also have many members attending Kgari Cleanup later this month, supporting a very worthy cause.

For those after a bit more hair-raising (or wheel-raising) trips, we had a number of events at our local 4WD parks, The Springs and Janowen Hills. This year we introduced another park to the mix - Black Duck Valley - and it’s immediately become a firm favourite! We are heading back there in a couple of weeks for induction and a member trip. We also ran our very first Come and Try Day at D’Aguilar this year, aimed at potential new members, which was a rousing success and received fantastic feedback.

From scenic beach drives to Teewah and Bribie, to exploring lesser known areas like Benarkin State Forest, it’s been an exciting and fulfilling year of 4WDing. Thank you so much to every trip leader. I know how much thought and time and care goes into planning a trip, and it is very much appreciated. Without you, we wouldn’t have these wonderful opportunities to explore our country and test our vehicle limits!

If you are interested in running a trip, please reach out to tripco@brisbane4wdclub.org

Kelley Dunk - Social Co-Ordinator

Since taking over the reins as Social Co-ordinator from Anne in September 2024, there have been several social events that have happened.

Before progressing further, I would like to thank Anne for her hard work in organising social events for the club during her time.

Some of the socials that members have enjoyed include JINGLE BELL BASH at Noosa North Shore, New Year's Eve at Gordon country hosted by Mel and Aaron Fisher, the annual New Year brekkie at Bribie hosted by Brenda Marment, Camp for a Cure with Michelle Manton and Easter Fun at Borumba Deer Park hosted by Michelle Lipovich.

Thank you to those who have hosted a Social Event this year. I would encourage those that wish to host a social event to have fun outside of driving to either come and see me or pop into MJ to host an event.

Socials coming up include our Progressive dinner at Yarraman on the 10-12 October, You've Got to Love a Long Lunch 15th June hosted by Anne Cahill, and our Christmas event held at Leyburn at 5-7 December 2025.

If you would like to register for our upcoming events or read the reports from past events, pop into Member Jungle to register or read the fun that the Brisbane 4WD club has had at these events via the Trip Reports.

Jeremy Scott - Induction Assistant

To sum up this year, it all comes down to what I think is the essence of Four-Wheel Driving: experiencing the pure joy people exude after they accomplish something they didn't think they could do.

The joy spreads like wildfire through everyone around them; it is so completely infectious.

For me, as an induction assistant, seeing and experiencing that joy makes what we do so extremely rewarding.

Brenda Marment - Secretary

Well, it finally happened: The Secretary got a new laptop.

No need for constant charging anymore, and no more computer crashes because I start up Teams or any other program it didn’t like. The poor old laptop never had enough RAM to cope with all the new applications we use now.

Over the Easter weekend, when most of us were away camping and celebrating or relaxing, Matt had the monumental task of backing up the laptop, emails, photos, One Drive and anything else I have forgotten, and transitioning the old laptop files to the new laptop and hoping like crazy it all transitioned over.

We purchased a new Microsoft Business package, which allowed us the controls we wanted for meetings on Teams, which is now an integral part of the club, as well as a few tweaks to the emails.

After a few headaches, Matt had it all sorted, thank goodness, because I would still be sitting here trying to understand and fix it all. I am not an IT person by any means.

Thanks, Matt, for the amazing job you did; it will be smooth sailing from now on.

Thank you and farewell from this outgoing Secretary.

Brenda

P.S. There is still time to nominate someone or be nominated for a committee position. Nomination forms must be submitted via email or handed to the Secretary by June 26th. See General Business below for more information.

Track to Table - Progressive Dinner 2025

I would like to take this opportunity to give further information on the 2025 Progressive Dinner.

  • When: From Friday the 10th October to 12th October
  • Where: Yarraman Caravan Park, 12121 D’Agular Highway Yarraman, Bookings@yarramancp.com.au or you can call: Mobile: 0491758580/ 07 41638185 and talk to Lorraine, Tina or Marc. Please state with your booking that you are with the Brisbane 4wd Club and they will position us all together. If 10 or more sites are booked, the club will receive a 15% discount.
  • Cost: Powered sites are $50 per night ($42.50 with discount). No cabins are available.

Previously the theme of the progressive dinner is to have entrée, mains and dessert travelling to 3 different locations around Brisbane, however I have thrown that out the window and come up with an idea to hold it all in one place at the caravan park. The theme is “Around The World” and what I would like is for members to nominate and provide a tasty morsel (Food or beverage) of a country around the world. E.g I am providing pavlova from Australia.

When you register, please nominate what you will be providing in the Progressive dinner chat group, this will avoid double ups and get the taste buds salivating……

From there, we as a group walk, stagger, crawl from one tent, caravan, awning, tarp to the next to sample the said tasty morsels and mingle with the other guests.

After the progressiveness of the meal/s, we can then sit around the campfire with full bellies and enjoy the evening. Of course, participation is not compulsory but encouraged. You can just come out and enjoy the weekend.
